Best Museums worth Visiting in Barcelona


With a rich history and great monuments to back the historical value, it is only expected that Barcelona has amazing museums. Each of these museums has something unique to them and you will find your tour through the most interesting ones of the city. They each have a story to tell with some containing the great works of the greatest artists in Spain.

Catalunya National Museum of Art: it is located on Montjuic hill and has the best Catalan art works. The pieces found in this museum include drawings, paintings, sculptures, posters, coinage, photography and engravings. They are all from Romanesque period although some are also from the Gothic. Some of the most interesting works are the wood carvings and mural paintings and the baroque art.

Frederic Mares Museum: it is home to the 12th through to the 17th century sculptures. The museum will be open most of the time even on holidays and Sundays but it is important to know the time to make sure that you get there on time to enjoy the great pieces at your own pace.

Cathedral Museum: after enjoying the great work on the cathedral, you will find the museum inside it most interesting. The museum is composed of religious paintings and art from the Catalonian school. It is definitely one of the must visit museums here.

The Pedralbes Monastery Museum: located within the Pedralbes monastery, the museum is interesting and is a must visit. It is however closed during holidays and on Mondays hence people need to get to it on the other days during the open hours.

The Picasso Museum: it is in this museum that you will find the greatest art collection by the artist Picasso famed across the world. It is therefore one of the most visited museums in Barcelona and definitely worth the time. It is normally closed on Mondays but you can enjoy the pieces on any other day.

Modern Art Museum: it contains sculptures and paintings from the 17th century to date. The amazing works of Casas, Russinol, Fortuny and Zuloaga among other artists will be found here. It is simply the modern paradise of art for all.

Other museums in Barcelona worth checking out include Fundacio Joan Miro, villas ibiza ,CaixaForum, the ceramic museum and the decorative art museum. There are many other museums to visit within the city and it is therefore not a wonder that it attracts people from all over the world.
